Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has said that Bayern Munich will have a strong team when the new season begins in August. The Bavarian giants were far from their best during the course of the 2018/2019 campaign but they nonetheless ended the season with a League and Cup double under manager Niko Kovac.
In an interview with Bild, Hoeness revealed that the club will come stronger for the forthcoming season with quality additions during the summer, he said: “I have to admit, it gets on my nerves that you can only define yourself through new signings. We’ve just won two titles and we should all be celebrating for the moment. I can assure you that there will be a good team on the pitch on the 15th of August.”
Bayern have shown the reluctance to spend big on new recruits over the years but they have somewhat changed the focus this summer with Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard bought to bolster the defence for a combined £100m package. Elsewhere, they are also aiming to strengthen the wider attacking position with Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben parting ways with the club at the expiry of their respective contracts this month.
Manchester City’s Leroy Sane has been earmarked as the prime choice to strengthen the department but so far, there has been no indication that the German would favour the move. When asked about the same, Hoeness acknowledged that the club hold an interest in landing the attacker but the move would depend on whether Sane wants to make the comeback to the Bundesliga.
The Bavarian outfit have dominated the proceedings in the German top-flight and they have won each of the previous seven league titles. Despite this, there has been disappointment of late with their struggles to compete for the Champions League crown and it remains to be seen whether they can make the push for the European title next term.
