Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has thanked his predecessor Pep Guardiola for providing him with a fantastic squad.

The German club clear favourites to retain the title that they have won in the last four seasons. Guardiola may have been criticised for his inability to win the Champions League with the German outfit, but he has been quite brilliant in every other regard. During his three years at the German club, he managed to create numerous records and it is highly unlikely that they will be broken again.

Ancelotti, at least, will struggle to break the fastest league success record achieved a year ago.

Guardiola was always compared with Jupp Heynckesand his success throughout his time at the club. However, Ancelotti will be judged upon his ability to surpass the achievements of Guardiola, who managed to win seven titles in his three years at the club. Bayern are certainly well on course to win the league title, but they have not been as convincing as under Guardiola.

Even after having played 10 games, the team only have a three-point advantage over second placed RB Leipzig who do have a game in hand. Ancelotti certainly suffered during the start of October when his team went on a run of two matches without a win.

"Pep Guardiola is a great coach, one of the best in Europe and the world.He did a marvellous job here and I inherited this top quality side from Guardiola. But now it's another story. I'm trying to do my best here and keep improving the side. I have a fantastic squad as I've often said. The players are all in good condition. My job is to keep them motivated," said Ancelotti after the club’s 3-1 win over Augsburg in the DFB Pokal. Augsburg are once again the opponents for Bayern during the weekend.
