Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso claims that Manchester City players will not find it easy to immediately adapt to the managerial style of Pep Guardiola.
It was announced recently that the former Barcelona manager will be taking over at the Etihad stadium from the summer from Manuel Pellegrini. This has been seen as a major boost to City and the Premier League in a number of ways since Guardiola is one of the coveted managers in world football. This will be his first job in the English game after having previously expressed his fascination of the same.
Guardiola has been immensely successful in his career and has won numerous trophies especially at Barcelona. However, his time at Bayern Munich has been less than expected in terms of trophies. Yes, the club has dominated the German league but they have disappointed when it comes to the Champions League. As a result, the Catalan will have to prove himself once again when he takes over at City. Backed by rich Qatari owners, the club have the ability to spend vast sums of money but they have to sort out their inconsistency rather quickly. Alonso came to Bayern after Guardiola took charge of the German club.
The former Liverpool midfielder says that Guardiola is one of the most demanding managers in world football."He is very demanding of himself and his players, but once you get to know it [the style], then it is the way we like to play. He likes the team to be in control of the game because he thinks that is the best way to win games. During his time here he has built something, a style of play, I think many players will have learnt a lot and improved and for sure those fundamentals will be very useful in the future as well," said Alonso.
