Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich defender NicklasSule. This is according to the report from The Athletic which revealed that the German international is a top target for Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel has performed well since he became Chelsea manager in January as a replacement for club legend Frank Lampard who was a victim of a poor run of results in the Premier League. Lampard was dismissed as the Blues boss and replaced by German tactician Tuchel at the start of the year.
The aforementioned publication disclosed that Tuchel wants a new central defender ahead of next season and Bayern Munich defender Sule is at the top of the list of his targets. 25-year-old Sule is approaching the last year of his current contract at Bayern but the Bavarian giants are keen to offer him fresh terms.
Sule was part of the Bayern Munich team that won three trophies at the end of last season including the Champions League but they won't be able to defend it this season after they were knocked out by French giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) at the quarterfinal stage last week. Ironically, Bayern had beaten PSG 1-0 to win the competition last season with their former player Kingsley Coman netting the all-important goal in the second half for the Germans.
Without star player Robert Lewandowski for the two legs, Bayern Munich crashed out on away goals to PSG. Bayern lost 3-2 at home in the first leg before beating the French club 1-0 away from home in the second leg to bow out of the competition cruelly via the away goals rule.
Tuchel and Chelsea are still going strong in the Champions League and they have a semi-final tie to navigate against 13-time champions Real Madrid over the next two weeks.
