Former manager Pep Guardiola has become a surprise candidate to replace Niko Kovac at the Allianz Arena. Guardiola spent three successful campaigns at Bayern Munich before moving to Manchester City. However, he has not shown a lot of interest in renewing his City contract that runs out in 2021. A large number of candidates have shown interest in taking over the vacant Bayern Munich job after Niko Kovac was replaced following a poor set of results. Unsurprisingly, Bayern Munich’s defender Joshua Kimmich has expressed his delight towards working with Guardiola once again.
Guardiola is responsible for bringing Joshua Kimmich to Bayern Munich, as he was signed for just £6.4 million from RB Leipzig in 2015. After being signed as a player with immense potential, it is not a surprise thatKimmich has established himself as a strong player in the team.
However, Bayern are once again on the lookout for a new manager after having picked up more troubles under Niko Kovac. In his 16 months at the club,Kovac has not been able to make a major impact even if he has been able to register a cup double last season. Bayern have not been consistently successful in the domestic competitions while they have struggled big-time when it comes to Europe.
"I know [Guardiola] and have a lot to thank him for. He took me from the second division and let me play in the Bundesliga. We won the double together and after that season I became a player for Germany. So, of course, I won't be against him coming back. At first you thought that we would get a new coach after the international break. Now, we won both games with Flick and it sounds like he will stay until winter or even the entire season,” said Kimmich. Hans-Dieter Flick has been appointed as the temporary solution in the dugout.
