German side Bayern Munich could miss out on defender Dayot Upamecano, as per reports in the Bundesliga. The Champions Leagues defending champs are hoping to land the RB Leipzig man next year. They have already severed ties with Jerome Boateng, another experienced man who would have preferred to continue with the club.
Upamecano has always been the club’s target for years now but they seem to be in a good place to land him next summer. Bayern could have landed him had they made the move when he played for Valenciennes in his U-19. They decided to see his development further. When the defender almost joined RB Salzburg, they made another move, but it yielded nothing concrete.
With David Alaba resigned on exiting the club soon, the management is keen on landing a decent option like Upamecano. The issue now is Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are also keen on the ball-playing defender.
For the Reds, with injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Fabinho yet to be fully return, they are hoping to land the defender in the winter window to power their ambitions, per reports. This is made peculiar as Joel Matip has a history with injuries and the youth players might not be experienced enoughfor the job.
For United, they are releasing or selling players like Phil Jones, Sergio Romero and other changes are planned. A top player like Bayern’s interest fit the bill at Old Trafford.
For City, they are always in need of extra players to help their lofty dreams. Pep Guardiola just extended his contract as against expectations that he might call it quits soon having not delivered the Champions League till now.
Bayern faces a tough task ahead to land the player even if they got oral assurances as players’ change their minds all the time.
