Guardiola Turns Down Rumors Of Boateng Move

The Bayern Munich boss, Pep Guardiola, has turned down the rumours of Jerome Boateng going to Barcelona this summer.

There have been talks in the Spanish media that La Blaugrana are interested in buying Boateng in their bid to bolster their defence after the exit of one of their seasoned campaigners Carles Puyol.

Puyol decided to hang his boots in May this year after playing for Barcelona for as many as 15 seasons.
Barcelona has already secured the services of a defender recently in the name of Jeremy Mathieu who was a Valencia player until the last season.

The performance of Boateng in the World Cup in Brazil was one of the best among the defenders. He stood out for Germany in the tournament playing a key role in the back line.

As far as Boateng’s tenure at Munich is concerned, it’s been 3-year long till date. He had landed at Allianz Arena in 2011 leaving Manchester City.

The 25-year old has made a total of 126 appearances for Munich so far and has scored 3 goals.

Boateng has been the league winner twice and the European Cup winner once in his three seasons at Munich.

In the 2013-14 Season which was Guardiola’s first at Munich as manager, Boateng featured 25 times in Bundesliga.

Yesterday, ahead of one of Munich’s pre-season games, when Guardiola was asked about the rumours of Boateng’s possible exit, he said, “Well, I have no idea what’s going on in the media, but, one thing that I am quite certain about is that Jerome is going to stay with us over the upcoming season.”

Munich’s first league match in the upcoming season is against Vfl Wolfsburg on 22nd of August. They will be playing that match at their home venue i.e. the Allianz Arena.
